NuVo Restaurant in Florence

Polly Campbell reports there's a new restaurant in Florence, NuVo, which will be focussing on "local ingredients, or at least American ingredients." No review yet, as it just opened Tuesday. I couldn't find a website for them, but their number is 859-283-2100.

Update: their site is up! Thanks, Skyler, for the heads up!

  1. I ate at NuVo over the weekend during their soft opening. I would highly recommend the calamari or the Kentucky tomme as starter. I had the lamb, but wished that I had told them that I prefer it rare. My date had the Kobe and it was melt in your mouth.

  2. I went to Nuvo for their soft opening and have to say the food was amazing, the service good, and the atmosphere fantastic. It was a little strange to find such a quirky place on Dream St. in florence but that is what made it kind of refreshing. Living in Florence its hard to find a decent place to eat that is not at least somewhat like Applebee's or TGI Fridays. Order the Kobe beef. It is amazing.

  3. Ate there tonight - it was very good and the staff are very friendly - I hope people catch on to this place - it is very very good.

I tried the Kobe - it is good but as it often is, I think it is not as good as many would claim - I think a solid prime steak at say Mortons is better - I did not try the Bass but it looked outstanding. The foie gras apetizer was very good and the rhubarb-relish-type thing was great, the corn-based chowder was awesome, the 5-spice creme brule a real surprise.

They have a very nice wine selection and appear to be able to match their wines well. I'd suggest that they consider adding a chef-menu with wine pairings.

I talked to the chef - nice guy - very bright - excited about what he does. If people will give it a try it will be very big - I personally like the idea of such a neat place in such a funky location (former pizza hut). Florecne badly needs a fine-dining establishment....
